Snickerdoodles


1 cup shortening, butter, or margarine
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 2/3 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tblsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves

Preheat oven to 350F.

Mix shortening, eggs, 1 1/2 cups sugar, flour, salt, soda, and tartar; set aside.  Mix 2 tblsp. sugar, cinnamon, and cloves; set aside.  Roll rounded tablespoonfuls of dough into balls and roll in cinnamon/sugar mix.  Bake 2 to 3" apart for 10 to 12 minutes.  Cool.
